Fionn’s Window contains the five groups of five letters of the Ogham, in five circles. It comes from the Book of Ballymote, circa 1390 C.E. In it, multiple books are combined including Lebor Ogaim (“The Book of Ogams”), also known as the Ogam Tract an Old Irish treatise on the Ogham alphabet. The arrangement of the alphabet in this manner is thought to invoke the image of a circular Iron Age house. Its circular form invites divination and as a graphic interpretation of the Celtic underworld it suggests a map to the mysteries.
